Klein, TX – Exciting news out of Klein! The first outcomes of the revamped, tougher State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) exams are out, and Klein ISD students are shining brighter than ever. Even with the bar set higher—students had to tackle more challenging questions to make the grade—Klein ISD didn't just make the cut; they soared above, proving their unwavering dedication to top-tier education. The district proudly stands a notch above the state and regional averages.

- Klein ISD students matched or surpassed state benchmarks in all 12 standard STAAR tests.
- The changes in the exam—increased difficulty and an overhaul by the Texas Education Agency—mean we can't draw a direct line between 2022 and 2023 scores. But here's the fun part: Klein ISD recorded progress in 10 core assessment zones!
Dr. Jenny McGown, Klein ISD's passionate Superintendent, couldn't hide her excitement. “The resilience our students and educators have shown, adapting seamlessly to the STAAR revamp, is nothing short of impressive,” she remarked. “Our compass points to one true north—making sure each student thrives academically. And with the backing of our incredible parent community, we're set on a path where every child can reach their pinnacle of success.”
2023's STAAR twist meant more online tests for students across the board and harder questions to grapple with. But did that deter Klein ISD? Stacy Kindsfather, the dynamo behind Klein ISD's Assessment, Accountability, and Research, doesn't think so. “Almost every subject, every grade—you name it, Klein ISD has consistently surpassed both state and regional STAAR scores,” she proudly states. “Our students and educators have truly given it their all.”
With the STAAR scores heavily influencing the State's school and district evaluations, all eyes are on them, especially given the recent tweaks and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) spotlighting the intricacies of their grading system. Dr. Anthony Indelicato, the Chief Academic Officer, pitched in, “While the TEA acknowledges that schools might see better academic results in 2023, the grading system's intricacies mean a school's rating might not reflect that progress. The fluid nature of these grading rules, which the TEA is still working on, means we can't bank on these scores to project our 2023 ratings yet.”
