Hello there. I hope you are having a lovely day. I have been waiting a couple months to bring you this announcement, and I am so thrilled it is official. As of January 1st, 2022, you will be allowed to file and be granted your homestead exemption as soon as you close on your new home, and change your driver's license to reflect your primary residence as your newly purchased home here in Texas. The fact that you will practically automatically be given your homestead exemption, means you could possibly qualify for more home.
Without having to explain all the math, it is pretty safe to say, on average, homeowners save about 10-11% by being awarded a homestead exemption. If you have any other questions about how property taxes work in Texas, I recommend this index. If you have any questions, I hope you reach out to me.
