Conroe is a fantastic city and community; it even houses a great recreational and fishing lake. Conroe has been touted as one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States. Conroe is a great city to explore if wanting to live north of Houston in a county that is considered conservative. You have great proximity to The Woodlands (aka, the new downtown) and there is always something to do. Another great thing about Conroe is that you can find new master-planned communities or older established ones. It really has a lot to offer.
