Katy, Texas is a city in Harris County with a population of 21,894. It was originally named Cane Island after its creek, a branch of Buffalo Bayou. In 1873 the town became known as Katy. While largely subsumed into Greater Houston, the town of Katy is still notable for Katy Mills Mall, the Katy Independent School District, and its historic downtown along the former right-of-way of the MKT railroad. The city offers a variety of living options ranging from historic homes and shops in Old Town Katy to upscale restaurants in master-planned communities such as Cinco Ranch or LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch each offering dozens of shops, restaurants, and salons.

Places To Experience in Katy
– Alamo Draft House: Dinner & a movie is always a great idea, and here you can enjoy both at the same time. Instead of just popcorn & candy, there’s a menu full of delicious dishes & even creative cocktails. They show new movies, and even have classic film showings!
– La Centerra: This is a huge, beautiful outdoor hub for shopping, dining, and entertainment. The environment is very family friendly and there’s even a large green space for kids to run around on and families to relax. There’s frequent fun events held here as well!
– Katy Asian Town: America’s #1 Asian Supermarket Chain officially opens in Katy, TX. H Mart brings you delicious seasonal produce, fresh meat, seafood, and a wide variety of groceries and housewares. Come and experience the new standard in Asian Supermarkets! The food court in H Mart is amazing, but there are TONS of restaurants right outside of the supermarket in the shopping center. This is one of my favorite places to dine in Katy!
– Katy Heritage Museum: Learn a little more about Katy’s interesting history at this local museum full of artifacts dating back to the early 1800’s. They’ve got vintage farming equipment & other antiques, plus tons of photos showing what life was like here in Katy during Pioneer times!
– Tilt Studio: There’s fun for all ages at this indoor gaming zone. They have laser tag, black light golf, mini bowling lanes, and tons of arcade style games where you can get tickets & prizes. You can also get food & drinks here, and it’s home to the classic tilt-a-whirl ride!
– Andretti: For a thrill seeking adventure, head here for state of the art indoor go-kart racing on some of the coolest tracks around. There’s plenty of other attractions like laser tag, virtual reality, and arcade games as well, plus a menu full of yummy food & drinks!
Parks to Check Out in Katy
– Central Green: A willowfork drainage district park… Central Green is the place to be in Katy! With weekly activities and entertainment most weekends, any time is a good time to visit the park. In addition to several restaurants offering patio dining in view of the park, more than 20 eateries in walking distance offer visitors nearby dining or take-out for enjoying a picnic on the lawn at Central Green.

– Rick Rice Park: A little hidden gem just off I-10 and Westgreen Boulevard, Rick Rice Park has walking trails, a lighted bridge and huge inspirational words like “hope,” “love,” and more to keep you motivated. Insider Tip: Don't linger after dusk or you might come across a snake or two.
– Mary Jo Peckham Park: Nestled in historic Katy, Mary Jo Peckham Park's amenities include mini-golf, fishing, gazebo, disk golf, pavilion, picnic tables with bbq area, restrooms, and a lighted trail.
– Willow Fork Park: The 32-acre park is located at the northwest corner of SH 99/Grand Parkway and Cinco Ranch Blvd., north of Cinco Ranch High School. Take a leisurely walk through Willow Fork Park to watch for butterflies visiting their special garden. The park is also equipped with boardwalks, a pedestrian bridge, disc golf, bio swales, a pavilion facility with restrooms, picnic tables, and grills.

On the 3rd Saturday of every month, Historic Downtown Katy hosts a market with around 200 vendors. They sell things like fresh produce, farm raised meats & eggs, local art & antiques, fresh baked goods, local honey, clothes, natural beauty products, and more.
