Hi friend,
Today, I'm sharing with you a guest post of a resident of the Grogan's Mill Village in The Woodlands Texas. This resident relocated with her fiancé from Detroit Michigan and was lost in the home-buying experience. She was over-whelmed by all of the cities and options North Houston has to offer, but ultimately found her dream home..
“My fiancé Noah and I spent months hopping from city to city in the northern suburbs of Houston. We attended several farmers markets, explored shopping centers, read ratings on schools (we don’t even have kids yet), located concert venues as well as trails to walk our dog, all in search for the perfect place to settle in and call home. After exploring, we both decided The Woodlands was where we wanted to narrow our search and began looking at houses.
Everyone you ask will have a difference of opinion on which village they love most and why, but for us, Grogan’s Mill was the obvious choice. For starters, I love older mid-century homes. I love the rooflines; the non-traditional colored houses and doors as well as the character this era of home brings. Looking for a mid-century home proved to be incredibly difficult here! The north-Houston suburb area of Texas has grown exponentially in recent years, meaning that a majority of the houses were built in the 80s, 90s or 2000s. However, Grogan’s Mill is the first and oldest village in The Woodlands, with construction beginning in the early 70s. While this village contains numerous mature and well-kept older homes like the ones we were searching for, it also contains many modern new builds.
Grogan’s Mill is considered the “front” of The Woodlands, meaning that it is the first village you encounter after exiting I-45. This adds unbeatable convenience for my fiancé and I because it allows us quick and direct access to downtown Houston or to any other suburb we may need to go to during the week. While access to downtown and surrounding suburbs is amazing, The Woodlands itself contains almost everything we need! In Grogan’s Mill, we are minutes from The Woodlands Mall, which houses all major department stores, specialty shops as well as a variety of dining options. We are right around the corner from Market Street, which contains stores, restaurants, coffee shops and an HEB grocery store. It takes us 5 minutes to drive to The Waterway, which is a beautiful path of water leading through The Woodlands Township’s center and eventually feeds into Lake Woodlands. Along The Waterway are many dining spots, hotels, and outdoor gathering spaces, all lined with sidewalks, which make it perfect for us to walk our dog and enjoy the city at the same time! In the warmer months, we enjoy Cynthia Woods Pavilion, an outdoor concert venue within The Waterway Township Center as well.
Within Grogan’s Mill there are two golf courses and seemingly endless tree-lines walkways, which add beautiful scenery to our twice-daily walks with our dog. We are also able to walk to Tamarac Park, which contains basketball courts, tennis courts, a playground and a dog park! Every neighbor or fellow dog-walker we have met has been extremely friendly and welcoming. We are incredibly happy with our decision to call Grogan’s Mill our home.”
